Climbing outdoors and access

Climbing is also one form of outdoor recreation, and unforgettable moments offered by nature are also an important part of the hobby. Bouldering outdoors usually happens on large boulders. Climbers carry with them a kind of mattresses, crashpads, that make falling safer.

The region of Pori has good opportunities for outdoor bouldering, as there are nearly 750 problems to try from. The grades range from 3 to 8a. Photographs on this page are examples of Pori boulders. Pori offers very little for roped climbing, so for those disciplines we often travel to Tampere (sport) or Kustavi (trad) regions.

If you have any questions concerning the areas or problems in the Pori region, or if you want to make new routes, please contact first our access team, email: climbingclubpori@gmail.com, or by Facebook Messenger.

Everyman’s rights in Finland allow moving in wilderness, but please note that cleaning moss, lichen and vegetation from boulders requires always approval from the landowner. More info on access issues in Finland can be found from the pages of Finnish Climbing Association.
